Explain the connections

Our subject is the relationship between production, staffing, financing and distribution. We describe the work behind the credits rather than ranking studios or predicting the next commercial hit. The guides are introductions to structures and vocabulary, not claims of privileged access to production rooms.

We are not affiliated with any animation studio, broadcaster, streaming service or industry association. Names appear to explain the subject, not to imply endorsement. This site does not host anime episodes, sell viewing subscriptions or represent industry workers.

Keep three kinds of statement apart

  1. Documented facts: what a credit, publication, statement or other identifiable source establishes.
  2. General explanations: descriptions of practices that may vary between projects.
  3. Uncertainty: contractual, financial or personal details that the available evidence does not disclose.

A general industry structure should not become an unsupported allegation about a specific company. A creator's experience deserves to be heard accurately without being presented as the experience of every worker.

Useful explanation does not need to make the unknown sound certain.

Match sources to questions

Official credits and announcements help establish contributions and participation. Corporate materials can explain a company's own disclosures. Industry reports provide broader categories and estimates. Interviews offer situated testimony. Independent reporting can investigate matters that promotional material does not address. Each has limits.

When comparing figures, check definitions, dates, geography and survey scope. When discussing translations of role names, allow for inconsistent terminology. When citing labor claims, seek evidence relevant to the person, company and period concerned. We avoid inferring pay or working hours from visual quality.
